Did you know that we offer new mummies a physiotherapy check-up after they give birth? This assessment is done by our specialised women’s health physiotherapist who is trained to check the pelvic floor very thoroughly. This assessment is recommended to all new mummies who have had normal delivery or delivery via C-Section and is a must for all the mummies who would like to return to some sort of exercise or fitness post giving birth.
Our first rule is – BE KIND to yourself! I know most of you are eager to lose the extra weight and feel ‘normal’ again but do not rush back into exercise before making sure that your body has healed enough and your pelvic floor is strong enough to go back to exercise.
Mara is a 36 year old mummy who tried our services – this is what she had to say:
“I had my 3rd baby four months ago and I wanted to go back to training. I saw Sara, a Women’s health physio at Physio Central who helped me get back in shape and also helped with my back pain. She did a full investigation of my body and pelvic floor and I felt very comfortable and at ease during the internal examination. I would really recommend this post-natal check-up to all mummies. The clinic is very clean, friendly and a very professional environment.”
Alexia is 37 years old and had her first baby this year. She used to go regularly to the gym and run regularly. This was her experience at the clinic:
“I saw Sam Bonnici throughout my pregnancy. I tend to suffer a lot from headaches and neck pain and Sam helped me a lot with these and they reduced a lot throughout my treatment. After my C-Section, I started seeing Sara Quina who helped me regain mobility in my scar – I feel so good now, I can’t believe I had surgery a few months ago! Both Sara and Sam gave me an exercise programme so that I can return back to fitness as I wanted – I really recommend this service to all mums. Both physios were very helpful, super nice and it is very good value for money. I am very grateful for their help!“
The mummy check-up is recommended to be done AFTER you see your gynae following the birth of your baby and BEFORE you return to exercise. We can check whether you are fit enough to train and also help you get back to exercise without compromising your tummy muscles or your pelvic floor. The most common mistake is that women return to high-impact exercise way too soon (usually due to social media pressure). Remember that your tummy muscles and pelvic floor have been stretched and traumatised and need time to adapt and become stronger again. If you return to exercise too quickly, then you will have no protection against leakage or prolapse and the problem becomes worse.
And remember – leaking after pregnancy is not normal! If you suffer from any leakages when you sneeze, laugh or cough, then please come and speak to us. We will be happy to guide you and make you feel better (leak-free)!
